Reading is a habit which gives a unique pleasure in
life. Doubtlessly, the regular reading has helped to develop my writing skill.
For me, English was not a spoken language during my childhood until the
beginning of the secondary education when the medium of instruction changed to
English from my Indian language. English became mandatory to learn. Although
this was a challenging change, I forced a habit of reading to develop my
English skill.
My interest for reading English books developed after reading the Kon-Tiki
Expedition filled with adventure and excitement. Regularly, I began to read the
books that inspired me more from the authors like Earl Stanley Gardner, Nevil
Shute, Ian Fleming, etc., whose books gave different genres that primarily
interested me.
I like ROMANCE stories where a love is expressed with emotion and
suspense, HISTORY gives the knowledge of the past, ADVENTURE where I get to go
beyond one place, and TRAVEL to enhance my worldly knowledge.
To sum with a quote from George R.R. Martin: “A reader lives a thousand lives
before death, The one who never reads lives only one.”
